Tesla Model S and X News: The Real Surprise is… the Price!

Do the Model S and X still have a future in an automotive world where model life rarely exceeds 3 years? Tesla says yes.

We expected a bit of everything for these new Tesla Model S and X. An aesthetic revolution, a technological overhaul, a spaceship-style interior… but no. Tesla chose to bet on the unexpected with a $5,000 price increase.

The Model S and Model X are getting an update – well, “update,” perhaps a somewhat generous term. Visually, we note the arrival of a new “Frost Blue” color (count on $2,500 for this icy blue), redesigned wheels, a discreet camera on the front bumper, and, drum roll… light animations!

On the technical side, there’s a gain of 10 km of range on the 19-inch wheels thanks to a new design, which must be acknowledged, is very successful, dubbed “Magnetite.” In contrast, the new 21-inch “Velarium” wheels, available for $4,500, lose 5 km compared to the previous model. Logical, right?

Garage space for the S and X?

Tesla also claims to have reduced wind and road noise in the cabin, without bothering to provide evidence. A slightly revised suspension, new bushings, dynamic ambient lighting inherited from Models 3 and Y, and adaptive headlights are also making their debut. Nothing truly revolutionary, but it fills the gaps.

The Model S Plaid, the beefed-up version, inherits a new rear diffuser and a slightly retouched front end, supposedly to improve high-speed stability. If you keep an eye on it. As for the Model X, it offers a bit more space for third-row passengers. At least that’s what Tesla says. Without numbers, of course.

But in the end, the real novelty, the one we couldn’t really miss, is the price. In summary: more expensive, a bit prettier, not much newer. But hey, they had to make a statement.
