After Paris, a Tesla drives itself in Rome (+Video)

Tesla continues to progress at its own pace, or rather at the pace of its cameras and algorithms, in the race for autonomous driving.

This race, driven at full speed by Tesla, is increasingly resembling a tourist rally. The latest demonstration involved a Tesla confidently navigating the historic streets of Rome, passing by the iconic Colosseum.

However, behind this beautiful image, a reality asserts itself: the FSD has still not received any official authorization in Europe. Not in Italy, not in France, not even in the Netherlands, where regulatory processes are usually more flexible. To date, the technology remains strictly in a supervised testing phase, without a legal framework for large-scale deployment.

Faced with this deadlock, Tesla seems to be adopting a deliberate strategy: not to wait for approval but to provoke demonstration. By filming its vehicles operating in some of the most complex urban environments in Europe, such as the chaotic Charles de Gaulle Square surrounding the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, or the unpredictable alleyways of Rome, the California brand chooses to prove through imagery that its technology is ready.

Europe is not ready for Tesla under FSD

The messages posted on social media are clear: “FSD Supervised testing in Rome,” followed by the now-familiar mention “Pending regulatory approval.” In other words: “We know how to do it. It’s not our fault that we can’t offer it to you yet.”

Elon Musk himself has not minced his words, explaining that regulatory delays directly harm road safety, arguing that FSD results in four times fewer injuries than human driving.

While waiting for the agreement from European authorities, Tesla continues to accumulate spectacular videos. A subtle way, or not, of saying that if they are not allowed in through the door to the world of autonomous driving, they will come through our screens to achieve their goals…
