Wait until July 1st to buy your car for less!

Starting from July 1, 2025, the ecological bonus for purchasing an electric vehicle in France is changing significantly.

This shift regarding the Ecological Bonus affects its funding, amounts, and conditions. For many buyers, this translates to good news—more generous financial aid.

Until now, the bonus was funded directly by the state. However, to ease public finances, this responsibility will now fall to energy suppliers such as EDF, Engie, or TotalEnergies, through the Energy Saving Certificates (CEE) system. This mechanism operates under the “polluter pays” principle. Companies must fund actions to reduce energy consumption.

This change does not alter the eligibility criteria. The vehicles in question must still cost less than €47,000, weigh less than 2.4 tons, and meet a minimum environmental score. However, the amounts of the bonus have been increased.

The most modest households (deciles 1 to 5, meaning a reference taxable income per share of less than €16,300) will see their aid increase from €4,000 to €4,200. Households classified as “intermediate” (deciles 6 to 8, up to €26,200) will now benefit from €4,200, compared to €3,000 previously. Even the wealthiest households (above €26,200) will see their aid rise to €3,100, which is €1,100 more than before.

Unlike social leasing, which remains subject to quotas, this 2025 bonus is accessible without any limit on applications. The total budget could even exceed €500 million this year. Another advantage is that the process is simplified, with the bonus being directly covered by the energy provider through your dealer.

Note that orders placed before July 1 remain eligible for the previous rates, even if delivery occurs later. However, waiting a few days could thus earn you up to €1,200 more.
