Tesla wants its share of the Indian treasure!

After years of waiting, rumors, and false starts, Tesla is finally officially launching its operations in India.

The first Tesla showroom will open its doors on July 15 in Mumbai, marking the beginning of a new era for the American manufacturer in the world’s most populous market.

Long hampered by regulatory divergences and a hesitant strategy, Tesla’s arrival in India has suddenly accelerated in recent months. And the most ironic part of this situation? It might be Donald Trump, unwittingly, who provided the biggest boost to Elon Musk. By amplifying his attacks on Tesla in the U.S. out of pure vengeance, the president has undoubtedly convinced his former best friend Elon Musk to diversify and secure his future abroad. As a result, India is becoming a priority.

All systems go for Tesla

The official green light has been given by the authorities of the Maharashtra state, with a five-year license allowing Tesla to operate showrooms and test drive unregistered vehicles. An official Tesla India X page has even been activated for the occasion, succinctly announcing “Coming soon,” implying “We’re coming and it’s going to be big!”

The launch will begin with the Model Y, distributed from a new logistics center located near Mumbai’s international airport. Initially, the vehicles will be imported, before a potential industrial setup, facilitated by the gradual easing of Indian rules regarding local production of electric vehicles.

The potential is immense with a market of over 1.4 billion inhabitants, a rapidly growing middle class, and a government firmly focused on electrifying mobility. In short, everything Tesla loves.

There is no doubt that this strategic shift could pay off significantly. And if one had to calculate the actual value of the “Trump gift,” it might be counted in millions of cars sold… Namaste.
