Tesla Model 3: Turn Signals Now Optional for €300

In China, Tesla is testing the reintroduction of the turn signal lever after having removed it… but is charging a fortune for the option!

Who said that Tesla is deaf to its customers’ remarks? After years of annoyance following the disappearance of the traditional left turn signal lever, as is customary everywhere (except for Ferrari…), Tesla drivers seem to have gotten their way regarding the Model 3.

Indeed, the turn signal lever is returning this August 2025, but only for the Chinese market to start… and as an option. The price is almost funny: 2499 yuan, or 299 euros. Will European models benefit from this soon, knowing they are also produced in China? One can think so.

An absurdity signed by Tesla

A fault admitted is half forgiven. Tesla is therefore making a step toward its customers, but its response is extremely disappointing. How can you seriously charge for this essential accessory regarding safety, when the fault stems from a lack of judgment during the design phase?

The intervention includes labor, installation of the turn signal lever… and the replacement of the steering wheel. Why? To use a version without the direction buttons. Tesla China warns customers that downtime can last up to 3 days! Another way to discourage those who might be interested.

Finally, Tesla specifies that the intervention is currently reserved for Model 3 produced after February 7, 2025. That’s very specific. For older models, they’ll have to wait.

To end on a humorous note, it would be amusing if the upgraded examples with this “option” in after-sales service increased their desirability in the used market. Let’s see now if Tesla decides to reintroduce this accessory as standard. That would be smarter and more elegant from a commercial standpoint.
