Kia EV4

Kia takes a significant step in its electrification strategy by launching the production of the EV4 at its European factory in Žilina, Slovakia.

This is Kia’s first 100% electric vehicle manufactured on the Old Continent, a choice aimed at better meeting the expectations of European customers, reducing delivery times… and of course limiting penalties, or even benefiting from juicy ecological bonuses in some markets !

The EV4 is a compact five-door vehicle designed for Europe and assembled exclusively in the modernized workshops of Kia AutoLand Slovakia. The factory has benefited from an investment of 108 million euros to accommodate this new model. Marc Hedrich, president of Kia Europe, praises a “decisive milestone” that demonstrates the factory’s ability to produce electric vehicles alongside thermal and hybrid models.

Kia makes its electric shift

Based on the Hyundai group’s E-GMP modular platform, the EV4 combines performance and range. It will be offered with two battery options, 58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh, with the larger one providing up to 630 kilometers of range according to the WLTP cycle. The model also features advanced functionalities like powering external devices (Vehicle-to-Load) or the ability to inject energy back into the grid (Vehicle-to-Grid). To reduce weight and improve agility, the hood is made of aluminum. Customers will be able to choose from five exterior colors.

Since its opening in 2004, the Žilina factory has established itself as an industrial pillar for Kia in Europe. It already produces the XCeed and Sportage models, including their hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, which accounted for a quarter of its production in 2024. Equipped with over 600 robots and capable of assembling 350,000 vehicles per year, the site operates entirely on renewable electricity and has reduced its energy consumption and CO₂ emissions over the years.
