Tesla has just unveiled in China a new version of its most popular SUV: the six-seat Model Y.

186 mm longer than the standard version, the Tesla Model Y “L” version stands out with its rethought space and several adjustments aimed at passenger comfort. From its first day of sale, the model recorded nearly 40,000 orders, proof that the new features are appealing.

At the front, the manufacturer has redesigned the seat design. Wider and longer, they now benefit from additional support thanks to a better contoured headrest and an electric seat extension to enhance comfort under the thighs. Heating, ventilation, and increased support complete this set. The central rearview mirror has also been raised, benefiting from a modified roofline to offer better rear visibility.

At the rear, Tesla has replaced the second-row bench with two independent captain’s seats, featuring retractable armrests and adjustments via the dedicated 8-inch screen. A third row accommodates two additional seats with cup holders and benefits from new vertical vents integrated into the B and C pillars, aimed at improving air conditioning for all passengers. This addition transforms the SUV into a true family vehicle, but it is doubtful that it can comfortably transport six adults. Headroom in the third row is very limited, and these extra seats are more suited for children or smaller adults.

On the multimedia side, the central screen increases from 15.4 to 16 inches, offering a more immersive interface, and the SUV adopts the premium audio system with 18 speakers and a subwoofer, compared to 15 on the Long Range version.

The trunk volume also increases, reaching 2,539 liters once the seats are folded down, nearly 400 liters more than the standard Model Y in China.

This extended Model Y adopts continuously variable damping suspension, already introduced on the Model 3 Performance, to better compensate for the additional weight and length. It thus promises a more refined compromise between comfort and dynamism.

Finally, Tesla has made several visual tweaks: redesigned rear quarter windows, specific wheels, a unique badge, and a new “ducktail” rear spoiler inspired by the Performance, which should also contribute to stability at high speeds. An exclusive Starlight Gold color completes the palette.
