A BYD Like New but Much Cheaper

BYD is finally entering the certified used car market by offering inspected models with an extended manufacturer’s warranty.

At the 2025 IAA Mobility show in Munich, BYD introduced its new “Certified Pre-Owned” program, aimed at giving a second life to certified used electric vehicles while keeping them within the manufacturer’s framework. The models concerned, such as the Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, and Seal U, undergo a comprehensive inspection of the battery, motor, software, and key components. Only those meeting BYD’s strict technical and aesthetic standards receive the official certification.

For consumers, the benefit is clear. These models offer an extended warranty, a validated maintenance history, and direct support from the manufacturer. Buyers enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a new vehicle while benefiting from a more affordable price. Accessing a recent and well-equipped model without paying a premium price becomes possible, thus eliminating one of the main hesitations associated with buying a used electric vehicle.

BYD increasingly solid in Europe

This initiative is also a strategic step for BYD. Despite its status as the world’s leading seller of electrified vehicles, the manufacturer remains relatively new in Europe. To establish its program, it first needed to have a sufficiently large used vehicle fleet. With this milestone achieved, BYD is structuring an emerging market and building trust among buyers, while also encouraging the renewal of the electric vehicle fleet.
