With its C10 REEV, Leapmotor unveils a winning compromise to attract both skeptics and electric enthusiasts.

Leapmotor introduces in Europe its REEV (Range Extender Electric Vehicle) technology with range extender. Teased at the last International Auto Show, this vehicle will be officially presented at the Brussels Motor Show from January 10 to 19, 2025. Applied to the SUV C10, this innovative technology could reconcile electric fans and skeptics looking for flexibility.

Unlike traditional hybrids, where both the combustion engine and electric motor often work together to propel the wheels, Leapmotor’s REEV system relies on a different principle. Here, the electric motor is the only one to drive the wheels. The combustion engine, a 1.5-liter unit, acts solely as a generator to produce electricity when the 28.4 kWh battery is nearly depleted. This allows the vehicle to prioritize pure electric driving while providing a solution to extend range on longer trips.

The C10 REEV offers an electric range of 145 km on the WLTP cycle, more than enough for everyday commutes. When needed, the range extender boosts the total range to over 950 km, with ultra-low combined fuel consumption of 0.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions limited to 10 g/km. This unique design reduces emissions and fuel consumption compared to classic hybrids while eliminating the range anxiety associated with traditional electric vehicles. The SUV also features fast charging. In 18 minutes, it recovers 50% of its electric range via a 65 kW DC fast charger.

With its advanced technology and a price announced as competitive, Leapmotor’s C10 REEV aims to meet the expectations of modern consumers, combining the advantages of electric with optimal flexibility. And you know what, it might just succeed! We wondered why Stellantis bought Leapmotor — perhaps we now have one of the first answers.
