Tesla Supercharger Borne recharge

The increase in the number of electric vehicles on the road is accompanied by the problem of limiting long charging times.

The information shocked last summer: a Tesla owner shot and killed another customer at a charging station, annoyed by the wait time and the behavior of the victim who had priority. The situation escalated, leading to tragedy.

Images of endless queues in the United States are also beginning to clog social media, to the point of motivating customers to return to combustion engines. To do this, Tesla had already implemented a penalty fee for customers who reached 100% charge and were occupying the charging stations. But that’s not enough: a more drastic solution is needed for Tesla.

The Californian automaker is working on a pricing model that, after reaching 80% charge, would switch to a much higher cost per kW. Why? Because the remaining 20% of a charge is much slower to obtain. From 20% to 80%, a Model 3 or Y stays stationary for about 30 minutes. To fully charge, it takes approximately 1 hour. That’s twice the time for only a marginal increase in range (+about 100 km) compared to the waiting time.

Tesla has not officially announced this project, but the community of geeks in the United States has noticed a modification in the car’s charging code targeting that 80% charge point. This information has been very well received on social networks where, for once, good manners come first…
