Dacia Sandero électrique

On behalf of its CEO, Dacia confirms the upcoming release of an electric Sandero in 2027. Unfortunately, it’s a model that is anything but innovative.

Dacia thus plans to launch an electric version of its Sandero by the end of 2027, announced Denis Le Vot, CEO of the brand, during a conference on 2024 sales results. He specifies that the final decision on technical specifications will be made by Christmas 2025. According to him, Dacia’s advantage is being able to tap into Renault group’s extensive technological arsenal to define the characteristics of its future model.

However, this announcement raises doubts. Le Vot confirmed that the Sandero will be based on the CMF-B platform, used for five years, while adapting to recent regulatory changes. This means it can leverage electric technologies from the Renault 4 and 5 or the Alpine A290, without excluding other powertrains. A “versatile” approach that seems more opportunistic than strategic.

Increasingly, the idea of adapting cars designed for thermal engines into electric versions is being questioned. These “electrified by default” models often suffer from paradoxical suboptimality with excessive weight, limited range, and poorly controlled technical compromises. The full potential of an electric vehicle can only be exploited on a platform specifically designed for this powertrain. This hybrid logic, driven by economies of scale, risks limiting innovation and leading to mediocre products.

Moreover, Dacia’s strategy relies on cost reduction to ensure “accessible” mobility. Le Vot mentions exploring solutions like sodium-ion batteries, considered less performant but economical. However, such an approach seems out of step with current market expectations, where range and fast charging are top priorities.

Ultimately, the Dacia Electric Sandero is likely to be positioned as a low-cost compromise, far from the growing standards of electric vehicles. Can this really be considered a sustainable choice, or is it a temporary solution driven more by economic imperatives than by a clear vision of the future of mobility? We will have to wait until 2027; much can happen before then…
